Landing!: NASA Celebrate McLuhan’s Birthday With Atlantis

Space Shuttle Atlantis is due to land on McLuhan's 100th birthday, July 21 at 5:56 a.m. EDT. Forty two years prior, in 1969, McLuhan was asked to comment on Apollo 11. He said: “I naturally feel flattered that Apollo 11 is scheduled to put man on the moon on my birthday, July 21. Of course the reason for choosing July, the moon month, is derived from occult symbolism of Zodiac signs.” McLuhan went on to note that “The 12. 12 am touchdown will establish a new chemical bond of resonance with space-capsule moon. The reverberations will alter all earthly music and patterns for all time to come. The innovators and perpetrators…now as always, are innocent of any awareness of the consequences of their images.”
